Our Internship Experience
The Catalyst internship program is a full-time, paid, 10-week summer program designed to couple academic research and training with real world consulting experience. Our interns have the opportunity to complete an independent project focused on current and future healthcare challenges, work on current client engagements, and create and present internal reports to Catalyst.
Over the past decade, projects have typically focused on strategic, operational, and planning tenets, providing interns with the opportunity to assess organizational need based on operational and strategic goals and to develop alternative solutions based on analytics and scenario planning. Throughout all projects, interns will gain valuable experience in deliverable development, presentation delivery, and advanced tool utilization including Excel, Tableau, and Dashboard Design.
Candidates must be a first year student currently enrolled in a healthcare or business graduate program. Analytic or operational experience, including previous hospital exposure, is preferred. While this internship is based out of our Charlotte office, ability to travel as needed is required.
Student’s resume and cover letter are due October 31 each year. Selected candidates will be invited to participate in the interview process, which will include two rounds of interviews prior to final selection. Most interviews can be accommodated through remote video conferencing.

“What separates Catalyst from other internships is the exposure to a variety of healthcare settings and unique project work with the support of a dedicated and knowledgeable team. Contributing to client projects offered a great opportunity to develop my data analysis, presentation, and marketing skills, and I gained practical knowledge from observing Catalyst consultants address a myriad of topics from strategic planning and growth to operations and efficiency. Healthcare is a rapidly changing field and by staying current on trends and understanding the needs of each client, Catalyst continues to adapt to industry changes and offer data-driven solutions.
I have always been interested in healthcare, and originally planned to pursue a clinical career with my Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of South Carolina. After spending time in clinical settings, I realized that I have a greater opportunity to impact healthcare through administration, where I can advocate for patients and providers to improve the environment of care. I credit my internship with Catalyst for much of my personal growth and practical knowledge that has been valuable as I finish my graduate studies at the Medical University of South Carolina and begin my professional career.”
